Meredith Rainey began dancing at 15 in Fort Lauderdale. In 1985 he joined the Milwaukee Ballet, and in 1987 he joined the Pennsylvania-Milwaukee Ballet. In 1989 he joined with the Pennsylvania Ballet, promoted to soloist in 1999 and retired in 2006. He performed briefly as a demi-soloist with the Dance Theatre of Harlem and as a guest artist with Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. He has toured throughout North and South America, Europe and Seoul, Korea. Meredith has performed works by George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor, Lar Lubovitch, Jose Limon, John Cranko, William Forsythe, Jean Grand-Maître, Jorma Elo, David Parsons, Trey McIntyre, Kevin O’Day and Matthew Neenan.
Meredith has been commissioned by Pennsylvania Ballet, Lincoln Ballet, Brandywine Ballet, Ballet X and Hubbard Street 2. Upon retiring in 2006, Meredith spent two years at the Susan Hess Modern Dance, “Choreographer’s Project”. Here, he was mentored by Ralph Lemon, Simon Dove and alike. In 2008, awarded a one-year “New Edge” residency at the Community Education Center of Philadelphia Meredith started a new project, that evolved into his company Carbon Dance Theatre.
