Elissa is passionate about nutrition, health and the environment which led her to study Public Health. She graduated with a Masters from Drexel's School of Public Health in 2012 with a concentration in Environmental and Occupational Health. She founded Growing Home which combines her passion for health and the environment into a solution to reduce hunger and improve health in Philadelphia. Growing Home is an urban farming initiative to bring low-income neighborhoods access to fresh fruits and vegetables through community gardening in vacant lots.
Elissa grew up just outside Philadelphia. She received her B.S. from Lehigh University in 2010 and has lived in Philadelphia ever since. She has much experience working with underprivileged youth as a volunteer with City Year Young Heroes Program and America Reads/Counts. She also is skilled in research and data analysis. Elissa enjoys painting and cooking.
